Jazz Workshop

The Jazz Workshop provides a weekly opportunity for jazz students to work on repertoire development, jazz idiom and theory, improvisation and playing in small groups.
Beginning jazz players are welcome; advanced students and existing jazz combos are encouraged to participate, and may work independently during the workshop time, using the session as dedicated rehearsal time with a master class/critique component.
The Jazz Workshop is open to any competent musician. Auditions are required, though previous jazz experience is not necessary. For the audition, students should play the “head” and may improvise on one chorus of any two tunes from any Real Book or fake book. Accompaniment will be provided if desired. If you are new to jazz, and the above request doesn’t mean anything to you, prepare a couple of minutes of any material that demonstrates your ability to play. Jazz neophytes are welcome to participate in the Workshop, but instrumental proficiency is required.
The jazz workshop meets Thursdays, 4:30 - 6:30 pm in MCFA room 221.
