Bibiana Díaz, originally from Colombia, completed her PhD with the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of California, Irvine, with a specialization in Latin American literature and theater, and an emphasis in Gender and Sexuality Studies. She has taught language, literature, theater and culture courses at UC Irvine, Chapman University and California State University, Fullerton. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor of Spanish for the Department of World Languages and Literatures at California State University, San Bernardino. At this institution, she is also the director of the student theater group Acto Latino: Teatro Universitario en Español. Her research on Colombian fiction and theater, focuses on issues of gender, homosexuality, social discrimination, human rights violations and violence, addressing, specifically, how particular works have been instrumental in re-defining the margins, and questioning the hegemonic notion of national identity. She also has written on Latin American queer literature and Theater. She has presented papers for the American Comparative Literature Association, the Latin American Studies Association, the LAGO Conference, the UCI Mexican Conference, the Pacific Coast Council on Latin American Studies (PCCLAS), and at international conferences in Cádiz, Spain, and Río de Janeiro, Brazil. In addition to her research and teaching, she is also a member of the editorial board for the journal Gestos, Revista de teoría y práctica de teatro hispánico.

SPAN3103 - Beginning SP: Oral & Written      

This course is designed to develop writing skills through a process approach that includes strategies and techniques such as composing, revising, paraphrasing, editing, and using a bilingual dictionary. In connection with the cultural contents provided in other courses at the same level, students will produce writing of various kinds, such as messages, descriptions, comparisons, and brief narratives that integrate the content areas, tasks, and structures from the other courses in the program. SPAN3104 - Beginning SP:Hisp Soc/Cultures      

This course is designed to develop reading strategies by providing abundant opportunities to read a variety of authentic text types, such as newspapers and magazine articles, realia, and brief literary selections. In addition to expanding the vocabulary base, the topics presented will serve as a springboard for listening, speaking, and writing activities. The information presented in the readings will offer a broad foundation in Hispanic cultural knowledge. (1 unit)
