Please plan ahead for inviting family and friends from abroad.
International guests may need to apply for a tourist visa for entry into the United States to attend College events, such as Commencement and Feb Celebration, or simply to visit their students during the course of their studies. To apply for a tourist visa, guests should first contact the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in their home country to confirm what documents will be required for the visa application process. To find contact information for a U.S. Embassy or Consulate and to learn more about the process, please visit http://www.usembassy.gov/.
In some cases, the visa applicant may be required to provide evidence regarding the purpose of the visit to the United States. An invitation letter issued by International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) may be sufficient to fulfill this requirement. Because visa processing times vary, we encourage planning for travel well in advance. Current visa appointment and processing wait times, which are subject to change, can be found on the U.S. Department of State’s website at https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/general/wait-times.html/.
You can submit your requests for letters of invitation to International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) online. Please allow five business days for processing.
You may opt for one of the following delivery methods:
- pick up the letter in-person,
- have ISSS send the letter to your mailbox so that you may mail it to your guest/s, or
- have ISSS send it directly to your guest/s via regular U.S. air mail.
Learn more at the ISSS web site.
