The English and American Literatures Department awards annually two Winter Term travel stipends of up to $2,000 each for students who wish to pursue a non-fiction Creative Writing project during January. These grants were made possible by a donation from James M. Meyer, class of '91. Interested students develop a project proposal in consultation with an adviser early in the fall, and submit a Meyer Grant Proposal, typically due in late October.  See the academic coordinate in Axinn 306 for a proposal form.

Recent Meyer Grant recipients have traveled to Turkey, North Africa, the Czech Republic, Brazil and Tibet, among other places—and have produced nonfiction essays and journalism on a variety of subjects. If you have questions about the grant process, see Jay Parini, Director of the Creative Writing Program.
