Curriculum

Students at the School in Japan take a variety of language and content-based courses... the latter being alongside their Japanese peers.

Students at the Middlebury School in Japan will take a combination of Japanese Language Program (JLP) courses through our partner institution, Middlebury classes with their cohort taught by Middlebury faculty, and, in the winter and spring trimesters, a direct enrollment course at the university.

Direct enrollment courses at ICU are taught in either Japanese (J), English (E), Japanese with some English (J/E), or English with some Japanese (E/J). Our students are required to take content courses in J, J/E, or E/J. On occasion, an exception may be made for students to take a course solely in English (E).
