Application Deadlines
Final deadlines for complete applications are as follows:

We will consider late applications if space is available, provided that visa deadlines (where applicable) can be met. Once the deadline has passed, you will not be able to access the application without first calling our office at 802-443-5745.
The Application Process
Applicants from other institutions must submit the following:
- A personal statement
- Passport copy
- An official transcript
- Study abroad advisor approval form
- One letter of recommendation—for language programs (all but India and the UK), this must be from a recent language professor
- For India and the UK, two recommendation forms
- Writing sample in the target language
- $75 application fee (non-Middlebury students only)
General Requirements
Students must have achieved an average of B or better in their major and language courses, and an overall average of B- or better.
All students are expected to enroll in a language course the semester prior to going abroad. If students do not have adequate language preparation, they may be required to attend the appropriate summer Language School prior to enrollment in a Middlebury School Abroad.
Heritage and native speakers may be considered for admission without meeting the formal language requirement upon approval of the director.
There is no language requirement for our Summer Programs.

Germany |
Completion of two 300-level content courses taught in German. Applicants from outside of Middlebury who have completed two years of German may complete an oral interview to demonstrate their qualifications for the program. This option is not available for Middlebury undergraduates. Applicants with just two years will take a preparatory intensive language course before classes start. Junior standing is also required. |
India |
No language requirement; university courses are taught in English. |
Italy |
Florence: Beginner Track: No prior Italian required; students expected to take Italian language courses and adhere to the Language Pledge. Junior standing. Not available to Middlebury students. Florence: Intermediate Track: Completion of 1st year Italian. Junior standing. Not available to Middlebury students. All sites: Advanced Track: Completion of 2nd year Italian. Content course taught in Italian strongly recommended. Junior standing. |
