The New York Times followed geology professor Jeff Munroe on a backpacking research trip into the Uinta Mountains of Utah to recreate a series of photographs made in 1870 by the U.S. Geological Survey. This technique allows scientists to study how much, and how quickly, ecosystems are changing.
