  • T-shirt Decorating for The Clothesline Project

    Come create art on T-shirts to be displayed as part of the Clothesline Project, an awareness raising art installation focused on sharing experiences of people who affected power based personal violence. T-shirts will be added to Middlebury’s collection and displayed as part of an art installation in Johnson later in April.

    Please join Becky Tang, Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Statistics, for a talk entitled “Statistical Modeling of Abundances within Ecological Communities.”

    When people think of statistics, their minds probably turn toward histograms, sample means, and t-tests. In this talk, I will discuss another side of statistics: modeling. What is statistical modeling, why is it fun, and is it even useful? I will then share my work in developing a spatiotemporal model for the abundances of a community of fish species in the Gulf of Maine.

  • Corporate Corruption in the Food Industry

    Why is our food system broken? Austin Frerick describes the rise to power of 7 “food titans”, whose exploitation of consumers, farmers and workers has contributed to high prices and poor conditions for farmers and workers. Frerick is a Yale University agricultural policy fellow and the author of Barons: Money, Power and the Corruption of Food Industry, chosen as a Kirkus Review Best Indie Book of 2024.

    This will be a mandatory pre-departure meeting for students planning to study at the School in Jordan during the fall of 2025 (or academic year of 2025-26).
