  • "Petit Rat:" Film Screening for International Holocaust Remembrance Day

    We are commemorating International Holocaust Remembrance Day with a video-on-demand screening of “Petit Rat” (Vera Wagman, 2021, USA, 45 mins.). https://www.petitrat.com/. In 1940, a French Jewish girl’s dream of becoming a ballerina is cut short by World War II. She vows that if she has daughters, they will become dancers. Nearly 80 years later, she and her two daughters confront the impact of that? pledge. Petit Rat is a portrait of three women, bonded by the intergenerational trauma of war and uplifted by the resilience of familial love.

  • Dry Land

    Dry Land is a visceral portrait of two competitive high school swimmers, Amy and Esther, who are stuck in suburban Florida. Amy is pregnant, and she needs Esther’s help. A story of female beauty and cruelty, Speigel shows us the gritty depths of what young women resort to when they feel they don’t have any other choices.
    Content Warning: Dry Land discusses miscarriage and unwanted preganancy, and contains a graphic scene depicting an induced abortion. It also includes physical violence, reference to self harm and emotional and physical abuse, and homophobic and ableist slurs.

    Stephen Sondheim’s ground-breaking “concept” musical debuted in 1970. The famous score is by turns hilarious and heart-breaking, and after half a century what it says about modern relationships still rings true. The annual co-production of Town Hall Theater and the Middlebury College Dept. of Music is always a much-anticipated event. This year, with the recent death of the man who changed the art form forever, the show takes on a new poignancy. Directed by Douglas Anderson, with musical direction by Carol Christensen.
