    Middlebury College Sailing Team invites current and prospective members to join us as we plan for the practices and regattas in the week ahead. This meeting is mandatory for all racing team members. Some weeks will include workshops focusing on tactics and other elements of college racing.     1 hour meeting for Mock Trial for all team members to discuss case theory, write direct and cross examinations, and collaborate on other work.

  • Korean Drumming

    Drop-in to learn to play the traditional Korean percussion genre samulnori. Samulnori blends traditional Korean rhythms into dynamic pieces using four Korean percussion instruments: janggu (hourglass drum), buk (barrel drum), jing (large gong), and ggwaenggwari (small gong). Participants will start by learning technique and basic rhythms and progress to more complex rhythms and sequences. No experience needed!

    Professor J Finley: Sass: Black Women's Humor and Humanity

    J Finley, Associate Professor of Africana Studies at Pomona College, will be discussing her exciting new book, Sass: Black Women’s Humor and Humanity (UNC, 2024). Dr. Finley will offer an overview of the book and the methodologies of studying the genre of stand-up comedy. Professor Finley was formerly a member of the American Studies Program at Middlebury College and critical in founding Black Studies at the College.

  • Translating Trauma: Lin Yi-Han's novel Fang Si-Chi's First Love Paradise and Taiwan's #MeToo Movement

    Literary translator Jenna Tang will share her experience translating Lin Yi-Han’s novel Fang Si-Chi’s First Love Paradise, which is widely recognized as the most influential novel of Taiwan’s #MeToo movement. In addition to exploring the inherent artistic questions of the work of translation itself, Jenna will touch on the intersection of trauma and literature, the process of bringing the work to English-speaking readers, and her interactions with the late author’s family.
