Weekend Writing Retreat

In this spring weekend writing retreat, interested students, faculty, alumni, and guests will gather in the MIIS library for 2 full days and 2 half days to work intensively and without interruption on writing projects of their choice. Time will be divided between individual writing activities and collaborative consultation and discussion.

Fall Writing Retreat

This writing retreat is designed to provide interested students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests some intensive and uninterrupted writing time to work on writing projects of their choice. Time will be divided between individual writing activities on the second floor of the library (or wherever you would like to be), collaborative consultation and discussion before and after the sessions, and shared breaks for snacks and meals. There is no instruction, no peer-reading unless arranged by participants on their own, and no workshop-like activities.

Internationally renowned as an expert on the use and prevention of chemical and biological weapons, Ray Zilinskas is the co-editor of The Encyclopedia of Bioterrorism Defense, and has authored more than 17 books and 60 articles in the field. His expertise has been sought by the US Department of State, UNDP, World Bank, and even network television. The Soviet Biological Weapons Program: A History, co-authored with Milton Leitenberg, is the primer for anyone interested in this topic.

He has won an NEA Fellowship for Translation, two Northern California Book Awards, and the Science Fiction and Fantasy Translation Award. When she can find time, she loves to do freelance translations. Combining scientific information with creative storytelling and evocative movement, Andrea Olsen discusses the interconnectedness of body systems and earth systems. The presentation includes a dance excerpt from her project, “Dancing in Wild Places: Seaweed and Ocean Health”, focusing on the vast underwater gardens that are visible in the intertidal zone and appear along the wrack-line on Monterey beaches.
