Her name has become synonymous with Court Interpretation. Holly has written the book on the subject, (as well as many others), and is a highly sought after court interpreter. When she can find time, she loves to do freelance translations. Her most recent book project, co-translated with Barry Olsen, is From Paris to Nuremberg: the Birth of Conference Interpreting by Jesús Baigorri–Jalón.

Combining scientific information with creative storytelling and evocative movement, Andrea Olsen discusses the interconnectedness of body systems and earth systems. The presentation includes a dance excerpt from her project, “Dancing in Wild Places: Seaweed and Ocean Health”, focusing on the vast underwater gardens that are visible in the intertidal zone and appear along the wrack-line on Monterey beaches. From Ottoman Turk and Beyond: Shimmering Threads of Identity What began as research for a biography of her paternal grandfather became a sweeping family and personal history set during the demise of the Ottoman Empire and rise of modern Turkey. Her research led to fascinating observations and discoveries about the fluidity of personal and cultural identities. Sarah Springer joins the conversation to share how Nükhet’s manuscript found the perfect home on the recently launched MiddCreate digital platform. Poet, Scholar & Sanskrit Translator Laurie Patton is the author or editor of nine books and more than 50 articles on religion, mythology, South Asian culture, and literature. She has translated The Bhagavad Gita and published two books of poetry, illuminating ancient wisdom with a modern sensibility. Described as a “poetic scholar,” acclaimed for her elegant translation, and known for making erudite subjects accessible, this promises to be a fascinating conversation. Join us for an evening of music and conversation in which Laura Burian, professor of translation and interpretation (Chinese program) and violinist, will play a few pieces together with musicians Jason Martel, Arlyn Knapic, Michael Blackburn, and Robert McNamara, and will discuss ideas and inspirations gained from performing music and interpretation with Julie Johnson, professor of translation and interpretation (French program) and researcher on mindfulness.
