Students participate in training for human subject research.

To apply for IRB approval, you must complete research ethics training.

Training is provided via the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI)

The Social and Behavioral Research modules take approximately 2.5 hours to complete and do not have to be done all at one time. Please see the instructions to create an account, add the Social and Behavioral Research course, and complete training.

If you have already completed a different human subjects research training within the last four years such as through the National Institutes of Health course, a different human subjects training course, or completed CITI training at another institution, please contact the IRB at irb@middlebury.edu to confirm that your training meets the Middlebury requirements and to provide evidence of completion. Note that Axiom Mentor does not automatically link with the NIH and other training courses, so if you are submitting an alternative training, it will require that you manually upload your certificate to the Axiom Mentor system. If you do your training through CITI with Middlebury as your institutional affiliation, Axiom Mentor will keep track of your training automatically.
