Book opened to reveal marbled endpapers

Special Collections’ spring exhibition, Under the Covers: The Hidden Art of Endpapers, celebrates endpapers, the sheets of paper pasted onto a book’s inside covers.

Each book on display provides insight into the techniques used to produce endpapers over the centuries. From discarded scraps to lavish marbled and gold-printed papers, the shift in materials often reflects the technology and tastes of the time.

Under the Covers: The Hidden Art of Endpapers was curated by Kaitlin Buerge ‘13 and designed by Rebekah Irwin, with additional support by Joseph Watson.

The exhibit will be on display in Davis Family Library atrium (main level) and Harman Periodicals Reading Area (lower level) from February 9th to May 31st, 2020.
