midd.data is proud to have awarded microgrants to support scholarship, pedagogy, and professional development for the following colleagues in Fall 2023. For more about these grants and how to apply see midd.data Funding and Support.


Kirsten Coe (Biology) will attend the SOBEFREE botanical foray to collect bryophyte specimens for Middlebury College Herbarium and grow cultures of collected samples in her laboratory.


Derek Doucet (Dean of Students) will complete a course in data science to develop new skills for using and interpreting data informing student policies and practices.


Phillip Murphy (MIIS, International Policy and Development) will attend a conference to present a statistical analysis of the effects of the Covid pandemic on money laundering.


Emily Putnam (Biology) will fund a project with students that conducts metagenomic sequencing to study microorganisms in maple sap. 


Courtney Smith (Theater) will purchase Isadora and madMapper software and attend webinars to learn about new concepts and trends in digital media technologies in theater.


Dana Yeaton (Theater) will hire a research assistant to collect and analyze data from an AI-enhanced video feedback platform that will allow them to refine oratory coaching protocols.
