Funding and Support
We provide several options for supporting your digital and data projects, and we can also direct you toward additional funding opportunities throughout the institution.
Leave-Year Fellowships
Leave-year fellowships of $2,500 for one semester or $5,000 for a full year will provide salary replacement support for colleagues planning to pursue digital or data-oriented scholarship during research leaves in the 2024–2025 academic year.
Eligibility: Colleagues planning academic leaves

Micro Grants
Micro grants of up to $1,000 support a variety of scholarly and pedagogical efforts using any of a wide array of data and digital methodologies. These grants can be used to participate in workshops or training in any data or digital skills/platforms; attend conferences on data or digital scholarship or pedagogy; acquire data or technology to support scholarship or pedagogy; hire student research assistants for data and digital projects; and cover expenses related to the development of new courses or course materials related to data and digital methods.
Eligibility: Faculty and staff of Middlebury College and the Middlebury Institute
Deadline: For AY 2024-2025, we will review three rounds of proposals due on October 18, 2024, February 14, 2025, and April 18 2025.
