Funding and Support
We provide several options for supporting your digital and data projects, and we can also direct you toward additional funding opportunities throughout the institution.
Leave-Year Fellowships
Leave-year fellowships of $2,500 for one semester or $5,000 for a full year will provide salary replacement support for colleagues planning to pursue digital or data-oriented scholarship during research leaves in the 2026–2027 academic year.
Eligibility: Colleagues planning academic leaves

Micro Grants
We offer up to $1,000 support for a wide array of activities through midd.data’s microgrant program. These grants can be used to participate in workshops or training in any data or digital skills or platforms; attend conferences on data or digital scholarship or pedagogy; acquire data or technology to support scholarship or pedagogy; and cover expenses related to the development of new courses or course materials related to data and digital methods. Faculty and staff at both Middlebury College and MIIS are eligible to apply.
Eligibility: Faculty and staff of Middlebury College and the Middlebury Institute
Deadline: For AY 2025-2026, we will review two rounds of proposals due on Friday, November 7, 2025, and Friday, April 3, 2026.
Conference Grants
Midd.data offers grants of up to $25,000 to support faculty and staff in organizing conferences hosted at Middlebury related to data and digital methods. These grants may be used to cover expenses such as travel, lodging, food, and honorariums for invited speakers. Conference themes may include, but are not limited to, statistics, data science, AI, digital humanities, computational and corpus linguistics, and computational social science. Applications may be submitted by individuals, departments, or groups of faculty and/or staff.
Eligibility: Faculty and Staff of Middlebury College
Deadline: Applications due Friday, April 17, 2026. Funds should typically be spent by June 30, 2027.
