Our History

Student government pushed for an LGBTQIA+ center in the spring of 2019 in their Thirteen Proposals for Community Healing. President Laurie Patton responded to this request by commissioning a task force of campus partners to discuss the possibility of an LGBTQIA+ center at Middlebury College. The task force included Renee Wells, Dima Ayoub, Karin Hanta, Janae Due, Khaim Vassar-Fontenot ‘23.5, Jason Vrooman ‘03, KJ Krasco, Eric Moody, Christian Kummer ‘22, and Katie Ritter ‘15. The task force recommended Middlebury College to establish the Prism Center for Queer and Trans Life.

In the summer of 2023, construction began at Farrell House. The existing house was renovated to include a large addition, the second story was removed to create high ceilings and have a lot of natural light, and both entrances are accessible with ramps.

The Prism Center opened in the spring of 2024.
