Applications

Yes! Students can edit their application any time before the application deadline. To edit an application, students can navigate to the application they want to edit under the “Application” tab. When you click on the relevant application, there will be a drop down menu with the option “Revisit/Update This Application”.

The application deadlines for room selection processes are after students hear back from specialty houses about whether or not they were offered a space, so our recommendation is to wait until you hear back from specialty houses to submit your housing application. Students who accept a space in specialty housing will not be eligible to participate in room selection.

Roommate Groups

This likely means that you have not yet filled out your housing application. Double check that you have completed this under the “Applications” tab. If you are still running into issues after your housing application is complete, email reslife@middlebury.edu.

This likely means that they have not filled out their housing application. Ask them to double check that they completed it and try again once they have.

  • Sophomores will only be able to match with other sophomores.
  • Juniors and seniors are able to create mixed groups, but it will impact the group’s priority, as mixed groups go after all-senior groups and before all-junior groups.

Time Slots and Proxies

  • Time slots are randomly generated within class year groups.
  • Only one group or individual is assigned to each time slot.
  • If you enter with a group, the whole group shares one time slot.
  • Your time slot designates when you can begin selecting, but students can select any time after their time slot begins until the process ends.

No. Time slots are randomized within class year groups. Students need to complete a housing application by the deadline in order to participate in room selection, but when you complete your application has no impact on your time slot. For more information about the deadline, feel free to reference our room selection important dates.

Group size does not have an impact on time slots.

  • Once time slots are released, they cannot be moved or changed.
  • Time slots designate when you can begin selecting, but students can select any time after their time slot begins through the time that the process ends.
  • If you are part of a group, anyone in your group can select on behalf of the group, so at least one person in your group will need to be available to select during your time slot. If your full group is not available, you can designate a proxy.
  • Individuals or groups can designate someone to proxy on your behalf if they are not available to select during their time slot, or our office can also proxy for you. If you would like a proxy to select on your behalf, please email reslife@middlebury.edu to provide us with information about your proxy (if you are designating one) or your preferences (if you would like us to proxy for you).

Past circumstances do not have an impact on future time slots, as they are randomly generated within class year groups each year. Because of this, every student has an equal chance of getting an early time slot, a late time slot, or a time slot somewhere in the middle each year.

Selecting a Space

Our housing processes are run based on randomly generated time slots, so unfortunately, there is not a fair way for us to guarantee students a single since your options will be what is available when your time slot comes. It is possible singles may still be available when your time slot comes, but it’s also possible they may not be. Because of this, we recommend going into the process with at least a group of 2. With 2 people, if there are two singles available, you can select a single for both people, but if there aren’t singles available, you will be able to select a double room with someone you have already agreed to live with.

During the process, you will only be able to see/select spaces that you can fill. If you go into the process with a group of 4, and there are no 4-person suites left, you will not be able to select a bigger suite, since you wouldn’t be able to fill it. In this situation, you can look for smaller spaces that your group can fill such as a 3-person suite and a single, or four singles, or a double and two singles, or two doubles. Your options will be what is available when your time slot starts.
