This year, the Rohatyn Global Fellows have partnered with Release Peace — a non-profit, non-partisan organization (headquartered in The Hague) whose work in the peace and security fields includes interaction with high-level personnel at the EU, US State Department, UN ambassadors, and others. This partnership offers Rohatyn Global Fellows opportunities to work with professional editors to author and publish articles on a range of geopolitical, historical, global, or cultural issues in the organization’s online magazine, Release Peace.

April 2024 - Rob Ambat ‘26, a double major in Economics and in International and Global Studies (Global Security), and Sophia Fatima ‘24, a double major in Anthropology and Biology, have recently had their article “Revelations on EVs, Palm Oil, and Indigenous Land in Indonesia” published in Release Peace Magazine.

“We are going to lose our forests when the company starts operating”, explains Anatasia Manong. Although the Awyu tribe that she belongs to is the owner of a customary area of land in Indonesia, they were not notified when a palm oil company started operating within their land.

February 2024 - Nicolas Woreth ‘26, an International Politics and Economics major, has been published in Release Peace Magazine with the article “The “Left-Behind-Children” of China.”

The beginning of the 2010s marked a turning point for China’s demography. In 2011,  for the first time in the country’s 5000-year history,  the urban population accounted for the majority of the nation’s total. This trend reflects the range of opportunities that Chinese urban hubs offer, with consistently high growth rates and low levels of unemployment. Yet, is this an indicator that living standards in the countryside may be unsatisfactory?

December 2023 - Ronan Corley ‘25.5, with a double major in Economics and French, has recently had his article “Financing Terror: How Cryptocurrencies Still Fuel Violence” published in Release Peace Magazine.  

Some 1 in 5 terrorist acts may be funded with the help of cryptocurrency channels. In 2021, around $7.7 million in assets were subject to Israeli seizure notifications on cryptocurrency accounts reportedly linked to Hamas. Social media likewise play a significant role in soliciting funds.
