Staff Council Update, October 20, 2025

Staff Micro Survey thanks (VT) and summary
Thank you to the nearly 300 staff members who completed our micro survey on the impacts of the VSRIP/retirement buyout. Your responses and your comments informed a robust discussion with Staff Council and members of the Board of Trustees on October 15. We hope to work with Human Resources to put together a comprehensive survey on the state of the staff soon.
We had great representation of all Middlebury Vermont-based departments responding, with the highest rates of response in Districts A (60) and B (49).
The majority of respondents (71.8%) were part of a department whose members had taken the buyout.
Of those, 74.7% said that their work had been impacted, with more daily responsibilities; an expansion in the scope of their position; and in working more hours. Some respondents received a title change, position change, and/or salary change to reflect the change in their role; 87.2% did not. Respondents were asked if the scope of their department’s work had changed with the change in staffing; 87% said said it had not.
We received more than 200 individual comments sharing their opinions about the ways that VSRIP has impacted their individual work, the work of their department and others, staff morale, and the student experience. Thank you!

Staff Council Fall Clothing Swap (VT)
Tuesday, October 28 from 3-5:30pm in the Axxin Winter Garden
After such a fun event in the spring, we’re back for another swap! To participate, bring clean clothes, shoes, and/or accessories you’re looking to swap. We’ll bring the clothing racks, hangers, and seasonal treats! Please stay until the end if you want to keep your unclaimed clothing. Otherwise, Staff Council will take care of donating whatever remains to a local organization.
