Residence Director On-Call Response
Our Residence Directors (RDs), masters-level student affairs professionals with extensive training and experience supporting students in challenge circumstances, are key responders in moments of crisis. They are on duty 24/7 every day of the year. They are backed up by senior Administrators on Call (AOCs) whom RDs call upon when dealing with particularly high-risk or complex situations.

Highlight: Creating Community on a Busy Campus
Middlebury was a popular place to be in the Fall 2024 semester, with an enrollment of over 2700 on our Vermont campus! Over the summer of 2024, our Res Life team partnered with their colleagues in Facilities Services to rapidly identify and implement creative solutions to house our students. Finding comfortable places for all students to live is only a part of Res Life’s job, however.
Once students are housed, Res Life is also charged with building community in the residence halls through programming and events. This work became more difficult in Fall 2024 when some common spaces, often used for such programming, were converted to housing to accommodate our high enrollment. The res life student staff rose to the challenge, offering 162 events serving 2040 students, and conducted 2900 individual check-ins with their residents!
