The International Travel and Research Fund is accepting applications up to $3,000 from Middlebury faculty for the November 23, 2021 deadline.

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to announce the resumption of the International Travel and Research Fund. As in the past, this is a competitive program to support research projects requiring international travel or presentations at international conferences. Each eligible faculty member—Middlebury faculty who are on tenure-track and tenured appointments, and special appointment Middlebury faculty who are eligible for election to Faculty Council—may request up to $3000 in support from this fund for travel.

A formal application is required. This application should i) include a 1-3 page narrative explaining the request for support (either for a research project or for presenting at—not simply attending—an international conference), ii) an itemized budget, iii) and a summary of the other sources of professional development funding available to the applicant. All applications should be submitted via this google form, International Travel and Research Fund

There will be two calls during this academic year. The deadline for the first review of applications is Tuesday, November 23And it will be for activity that will take place before March 31, 2022.  A second call will be issued in late January 2022 for a February 25, 2022 deadline for activity running from April 1 to September 30, 2022. Just a reminder, as a Middlebury employee, you need to follow Vermont and CDC requirements for domestic and international travel.

A selection committee will review applications, select the recipients, and determine the appropriate funding level for successful proposals. For the first round, they will notify applicants by mid-December 2021 of the committee’s decisions. For the second, they will notify applicants by mid-March 2022.

This program has limited funding so care should be taken in preparing applications. In the past, there were many more requests for funding than the number of awards issued.

If you have any questions about this program, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Jim Ralph
