Meet Charlie Arnowitz ’13
Congratulations on your acceptance to Middlebury! You’re almost done with the college process, and the ball is in your court now. You’ve worked hard for four years—and, let’s be honest, longer than that—and you’ve now earned the right to make a big decision.
It’s not an easy decision, and the factors that drive it are unique to you. For me, I was drawn to Middlebury because of its intellectual atmosphere, its engaged student body, and its uniquely beautiful surroundings. I liked the international outlook, the focus on environmentalism, the freedom to explore, and the fact that teacher-student relationships seemed to matter.
Four years on, and with graduation just around the corner, it isn’t difficult for me to look back at this place with a bit of nostalgia. I will miss the sunsets and the Green Mountains and my professors and my classes, but mostly I will miss the 2,400 peers with whom I engage every day. I will miss working with them on presentations in Chinese, collaborating with them during marathon student organization meetings, learning from them and admiring their research at Spring Symposium, and chatting with them in the dining halls about philosophy, politics, or (most often) our weekend plans. I have been fortunate to be a member of this living-learning community for four years. You can be too.
Choosing the right school is a big decision, so I hope you’ll be able to join us for Preview Days, April 17–19, when you’ll have the opportunity to see Middlebury up close. Best of luck with your choice! Feel free to reach out to any of the senior fellows if you have questions.
