September 23, 2015

Students Caitlin Duffy ’15 and Krista Duke ’15 Win Regional Awards

Middlebury, VT—Representatives from the Middlebury College Theatre Program traveled to Cape Cod, Massachusetts on January 29 to participate in the 47th Regional Festival of the American College Theater Festival. Among the two dozen students and several faculty and staff who made the trip, two students earned top honors.

The national American College Theater Festival (ACTF) is headquartered at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Each year, eight regional festivals pave the way to the national event in the spring. 2015 marks the Middlebury College Theatre Program’s 28th year of festival participation. Past highlights include six productions invited to the regional festival (three of which went on to the Kennedy Center national festival) , as well as acting, design, playwriting and dramaturgy students receiving scholarships and presenting their work regionally and in Washington.

Festival 47 continued the tradition of well-received work for Middlebury. Throughout the week, Middlebury students presented work in acting, playwriting and costume design. At week’s end, the Theatre Program was honored with the following awards:

In the Irene Ryan acting scholarship competition, Caitlin Duffy ’15 was one of 16 finalists (out of more than 250 contestants) and received the Classical Acting Award for the performance of a scene from “Macbeth.” In the same competition, Jackson Prince ’17 was chosen as one of 36 semi-finalists.

Krista Duke ’15 won the National Award for Excellence in Costume Design for her work in Professor Cheryl Faraone’s fall ’14 production of Snoo Wilson’s “Vampire.” Duke now moves on to compete in the national festival at the Kennedy Center in April.
