Carolina Travalia has a B.A. in Spanish and Italian from the University of Notre Dame, and an M.A. in Transatlantic Studies from UNC-Chapel Hill. She holds a DML from Middlebury College in Spanish and Italian (2005) and a Ph.D. from la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in Linguistics (2008). Her work focuses primarily on phraseology and translation. She is the author of the book El concepto de colocación en español (2010). She has also written several articles on collocations and dubbing and has translated into English two books of Elvira Lindo's Manolito Gafotas series.She is currently an Assistant Professor at Hobart and William Smith Colleges

ITAL 3151 - Beginning Italian      

This course is designed to introduce students to the grammatical structures and vocabulary necessary to express personal meaning on basic topics (e.g. family, daily routines, and leisure time) and negotiate basic survival situations (making travel arrangements, ordering meals, and making purchases, etc.). Language topics and functions are integrated into activities that emphasize all four language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing), with special attention given to speaking and listening. Cultural knowledge that will build a deeper understanding of Italy is a crucial component of the course content. This course meets three hours a day.
*Students are also encouraged to participate in all the workshops offered in the evening*
