Heather Quarles

Mills Faculty

Heather Quarles was born and raised on the beautiful and rugged Oregon coast. She is currently a senior instructor of Spanish at the University of Oregon where she teaches first, second and third-year language courses and forms part of the Program for Heritage Learners of Spanish. She earned her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Spanish with a focus on Hispanic-Jewish Literature, which she learned to love while living in Argentina during her student years. In addition to the six summers (and counting) she has enjoyed teaching in the Middlebury Spanish School, she has also participated in the development of MiddWorld Online, a language program for high school students. She is a proud veteran of the Middlebury Language Schools team and eagerly anticipates meeting a fresh new batch of students in California at Mills College this summer!

Communicating in Spanish (High Beginner)

Designed for students with some previous study of Spanish or another Romance language, this course builds on and rapidly expands control of basic grammatical structures and vocabulary. Cultural knowledge that will build a deeper understanding of how Spanish-speaking peoples communicate is a crucial component of the course content. This course meets two hours a day. (1 unit)
