Karina Maddonni, from Buenos Aires, holds a Master degree and an Specialization in Combined Artistic Languages (UNA) and also a licenciatura degree in Visual Arts with a concentration in Painting (Universidad Nacional del Arte, UNA, Buenos Aires) and Professor of Painting (National School of Fine Arts P. Pueyrredón, Buenos Aires).
Since 2015, has directed a research team for the Project “El arte contemporáneo y sus derivas pedagógicas en la formación universitaria” (cod. C16s03, INSOD Institute, UADE Foundation. She is currently a member of the research team on "Art and Labor", at UNA (National University for the Arts). She received artistic training in both practical and theoretical fields with leading figures from the local and international art world. She has been teaching, since 1992, at the Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA), Universidad Argentina de la Empresa (UADE), among other institutions, and in her own studio. She is currently Profesor and Academic coordinator of the DEART (Art Department), at the School of Architecture and Design, UADE. She has received several academic awards and is a member and representative of Academic Quality at UADE Foundation. Maddonni has offered seminars and workshops specializing in contemporary and latin american art. She has also been invited to lecture at national and international institutions. She has published several theoretical works about contemporary art. In recent years she has served as artistic and educational curator for exhibitions, biennials and art institutions, and has served as a jury of several art contests. Since 1997 she has worked as an illustrator as well as graphic designer for various publishers.
Maddonni is also an artist and has exhibited her artwork since 1992 in solo and group exhibitions.
In April 2016 her textile art installation “La hostilidad” has been sellected to represent Argentina in the VII International Textile Biennial, Montevideo Uruguay, 2017 (organized by WTA)

This course is conceived like /a trip/ around the interesting and problematic relationship between Art and Technology. Since the beginning, Art and technè have been inseparable concepts. The historical Avant-gardes of the beginning of the 20th-century modified this view and deeply examined this relationship. The new technological discovers and the media that appeared during this century changed completely the /Art landscape/*. Our course purposes an overview of the different art manifestations focusing in Latin-American productions such as video art, net art, interactive art, installations, urban interventions, performance art, blog art; and also will analyze the changes in the new spectators, as users or operators and the social consequences that this situation involves. Collective Memory & Art in South America

Collective memory has been one of the main subjects for artistic practices during and after the dictatorships in South America. The term memory—that includes its opposite, forgetfulness- in its social and collective shape, is the issue of this course. Artistic production and militancy have been the most important strategies to keep collective memory alive in this region. We will analyze and compare the artistic productions from Argentina, Chile, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay as well as Memory places and cultural institutions’ role in these countries. Special attention will be paid to Argentina, focusing on the Military and Civic Dictatorship (1976-1983) due to the deep experience that this particular society has achieved in order to give back truth and justice to the victims of the state terrorism. Photography and Video Art in Latin America: A Theoretical and Practical Approach*/
Three-week course, first session
This course has the intention to provide the students with an analytic and reflexive “trip” around the contemporary Latin American artistic production based on “technical images”: photography and video art. From the certainty that in our visual culture both media represent some of our daily links to reality, this course will offer an analytic platform from which we will be able to think of the ideological, syntactic, and semantic aspects coming out of the different productions. We will also work in the strong pedagogic potential that actual considerations on photography and video art have in the developing of language learning processes, so that the students could add more didactic and creative tools to their own classes. Even though we will read and study some Latin American theory and will have an approach to visual materials in class, we will also make some simple production exercises that will be also analyzed during the classes.

This course will cover an overview of the current state of the art in Argentina. We will cover works from the mid-80's to today. The problematic relationship between the artistic and economic and social crises that shook the country in 2001 and the world in 2008, will be a topic of particular concern to our course. While Buenos Aires is one of the most important centers of production and circulation, we will also attempt to reflect the artistic situation in various cities, paying particular attention to Rosario, as the epicenter of production in contemporary art. We will work with paintings, sculptures, video art, performances, interventions, installations, and artistic productions that are evidence of the crossing of languages and their interdisciplinary nature. In this course we will study Latin American art and its relationship to military dictatorships of the ’70s and ‘80s. The term memory—as a necessary subject and as an objective for many of the subsequent artistic practices—will be the main conceptual point to be developed throughout the course.
