Antonio Saura Medrano produces, directs, distributes and screen writes films as well as teaches film at the Spanish School.

Saura was born in Madrid and completed his undergraduate work at Complutense University in Madrid.   He got his MFA in Film Writing and Film Production at Columbia University in New York.  Throughout the 1990’s , Saura began his work at the Media Business School and became Director.  Concurrently, he worked in film production and distribution and headed up Iberoamericana Films, which produces and distributes well-known films.  He is a founding partner and director of Zebra Producciones where he has produced award winning films, such as Salome and Fados.  He was a journalist for decades for the daily newspaper El Pais in the U.S. and contributed to other prestigious newspapers and magazines in Spain.

Creative documentaries are a perfect way to perceive a society. Through the eyes of the filmmakers, one can understand a country, and at the same time, understand the creator behind. In this course we will analyze the most creative documentary filmmakers in contemporary Spain. Directors such as José Luis Lopez Linares, Diego Galán, José Luis Guerín, and others, will help us understand better the recent history of Spain. (.5 unit) Civ Cul & Soc

Dictatorship to Democracy thru Spanish Cinema
