The one-on-one tutorial challenges students in ways different from other courses, but at the same time presents a new set of rewards. My teacher was demanding, yet passionate and excited, and helped me to develop an expertise in a specialized topic, Chinese-African relations. Through this course I was able to gain confidence in my speaking and improve my writing ability. Our discussions allowed me to better understand the rationales behind Chinese foreign policy, and although I didn’t always agree with them, my teacher encouraged a friendly debate. This course was extremely valuable both academically and culturally, and greatly enriched my study abroad experience.
