Katherine Lyons, Beijing
My favorite thing about the Beijing program was the teachers’ efforts to accommodate students’ particular academic needs, interests and personalities. Since several of the students in my business Chinese class were very interested in environmental issues, our teacher led a class where we simulated a climate change summit. I represented South Africa and my classmates represented India, China, the USA and France. It was a very challenging, rewarding and relevant exercise that complemented my one-on-one tutorial on environmental consumerism. Similar stimulating and creative activities are common in the program; it is a unique and dynamic environment for language learning.
