Kennedy Kearney-Fischer, Madrid

Middlebury College

For me, the most important part of my experience with Middlebury in Spain was about language acquisition. By living with a native Spanish speaker, as well as by interning at the Dirección General de Asuntos Europeos de la Comunidad de Madrid, I was constantly able to practice my spoken Spanish. Both of these environments gave me the opportunity to meet people and to talk with them about
anything and everything, from the correct way to say “Pass the salt” to discussions of Madrid’s role in European Union development. Through these experiences, I was able to see a broad spectrum of Spanish culture. Ultimately, I really got a lot out of my time in Spain by diving headfirst into the opportunities—academic, professional, and personal—that were presented to me.
