Institute for International Public Policy (IIPP)
PURPOSE
Sponsored by the US Department of Education, the IIPP Fellowship Program identifies, recruits, and prepares promising undergraduates from underrepresented minority groups for international service through a rigorous multi-year fellowship program of summer policy institutes, study abroad, intensive language training, internships, graduate study and career development counseling.
AWARD
The IIPP Fellowship program has six components over five years:
Sophomore Summer Policy Institute
Junior Year Study Abroad
Junior Summer Policy Institute
Summer Language Institute
Internship
Graduate Fellowship in International Affairs
Fellows are expected to complete successfully all components of their individual programs.

FIELDS OF STUDY
International affairs or related fields
TENABLE AT
Sophomore Summer Policy Institute at Spelman College; Junior Year Study Abroad at accredited overseas institutions; Junior Summer Policy Institute at the University of Maryland; Summer Language Institute often at Middlebury College; Internships at prearranged sites from a group including federal government posts; and Graduate Fellowship at institutions across the nation, most members of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA).
ELIGIBILITY
Candidates must be members of an underrepresented minority, sophomores enrolled full-time, US citizens or permanent residents, have a minimum GPA of 3.20, and possess excellent critical analysis and leadership skills. They must show a strong interest in international affairs, public policy, and language training.
DEADLINE
Final applications of nominees must be received online, and supporting materials postmarked. Deadlines (internal and external) for scholarships and fellowships listed on the Middlebury website can be found on the Dates and Deadlines page; external deadlines are also listed on program websites.
APPLICATION PROCESS

Online application includes:
- UNCFSP Personal Profile (includes a brief statement of your career goals).
- Personal Statement(Essay # 1) - 500-word (maximum) personal statement about yourself and why you should be selected as an IIPP Fellow.
- Issue Analysis (Essay # 2) - 750-word (maximum) essay that explains why a current international issue is important to you and what you would do to address it if in a position to do so.
- Two online recommendations
