There are two primary sources of internship opportunities. There are the ones published on websites (and in rare cases, in print resources) and those that are never made public. Strangely enough many opportunities reside in the "unpublished" category. For this reason it is important that you perform a balanced search. By balanced we mean using both networking and online databases. We post all the opportunities we receive in our online system called MOJO.
Because the majority of opportunities are never posted, we encourage you to spend a significant portion of the time you dedicate to your search in networking and informational interviewing activities.
EIA also has a host of tools and resources on our website to assist you with finding the right internship for you. These pages have great advice on resumes, cover letters, interviewing and housing resources.
If you are not sure where to get started or need some assistance come by EIA to see a Career Adviser in EIA. Come to drop-in hours, or call ext 5100 to schedule an appointment.

What are good questions to ask an alum?
. How should I navigate the search process in your field?
. What skills do you look for in qualified applicants?
. What are the typical entry-level jobs in your industry?
. Can you recommend other people with whom I should speak?
. Where in your industry would I be likely to begin with my skills and interests?
Remember: MiddNet is a relationship development tool. It may take time to establish a connection and get to know each other. Start early, follow up, and be persistent if necessary, but always be polite and appreciative. Don't forget to send a thank you note and keep in touch periodically. Additional Search Tips available on MiddNet and in upcoming "live" networking workshops preceding school breaks: check the MOJO calendar for dates.
EIA has three primary databases where internships are posted. You can access all three when you login to MOJO.
Primary database of Midd-friendly internships and calendar of EIA events, workshops, and application deadlines.
- Liberal Arts Career Network (LACN)
Consortium of 30 top liberal arts colleges, including Middlebury, who share internship postings.
- Nationwide Internships Consortium (NIC)
Consortium of 18 liberal arts schools, including Middlebury, who share internship postings. One attractive feature of this site is the geographic range of the internship locations, including the West Coast. These listings complement what you often find in MOJO and LACN.
If an employer or interested party wishes to offer an internship in their organization only for Middlebury students, it is listed in MOJO as a "Midd-friendly" internship. Often, these Midd-friendly opportunities are made possible by a Midd alum or parent, making this the best place for you to start searching opportunities. Because MOJO listings are only for Midd students you have the exclusive Midd advantage.

MOJO, LACN, and NIC are invaluable resources, but you might have a specific interest or opportunity outside of these listings. We are here to support you in creating your own internship.
