During the course of the Mellon Humanities for All Times grant, Middlebury College will sponsor three Summer Institutes for faculty. In May 2024, ten professors participated in an annual intensive 3-day workshop. The overarching goal was for each professor to produce a course proposal and syllabus to be taught within two years and repeated at least once. To train and help professors craft their course proposals and syllabi, internal and external experts offered perspectives on how to teach about equity, non-discrimination, inclusion, solidarity, privilege, allyship, and justice as they relate to migrant lives. Experts led discussions on integrating writing pedagogy, oral presentation, archival work, and digital humanities, among other skills, into classes tailored to highlight issues of migrant justice. Each Summer Institute will create a cohort of teaching faculty who will meet four times throughout the following academic year to share their ideas, challenges, and progress.
