Direct Involvement
You can get involved with democracy initiatives here at Middlebury through direct engagement with our student-led Community Engagement Organization, MiddVotes, as well as through our Immersive Learning program. Both of these pathways have general student participation as well as leadership positions available.
MiddVotes
MiddVotes is Middlebury’s non-partisan organization dedicated to getting out the student vote and fostering a civically-minded community.
By hosting regular voter registration drives, posting infographics on social media, conducting outreach via email, and collaborating with other student organizations on campus, MiddVotes members learn the importance of community political/civic engagement. Through educational events and discussions, the organization aims to empower students to become informed and responsible voters who can make a difference in their community and beyond.
MiddVotes is best suited for students who are interested in building community, non-partisan political involvement, or getting increasing votes amongst the community.

Democracy Initiatives Immersive
Education, Opportunity, and Civic Identity. Schools do more than teach students how democracy works—they teach young people, explicitly and implicitly, what power they have within it. Over two half-credit courses (fall and spring) and a February break trip to Washington, DC, this experience will explore how place, opportunity, and educational inequality shape civic identity, and asks what schools can—and cannot—do to help young people see themselves as participants in our shared civic life.

- Course credit: 1 credit: ½ credit in the Fall, ½ credit in the Spring
- Travel component: One week in Washington DC during February Break 2027
- Program Requirements: Application required. Academic credit includes participation in two, 1/2 credit courses(one in the second half of the Fall semester, one in the first half of Spring semester). Open to all students.
