“Too often the government thinks it knows what is best for its citizens and doesn’t get their input, feedback and involvement. These four [students] realized that isn’t how it should work.”
Middlebury College students complete over 100,000 hours of community service each year in the town of Middlebury and Addison County through on- and off-campus activities.
“Each of us brought our own unique experience related to peacebuilding, but together, we presented on systems mapping: a technique that encourages a holistic and strategic approach to problem-solving.”
Thanks to the vision and dedication of Assistant Professor of Theatre Olga Sanchez Saltveit and a team of students, an adaptation of this rich tradition at Middlebury College is anticipated and appreciated by both the on- and off-campus communities.
Each semester, the CCE trains and supports a dynamic cohort of Project Assistants (PAs). Our PAs are making an impact on campus and in the community, tackling real-world challenges, and each PA experience is unique.
“What ties my work together is a belief in collaborative, community-driven solutions and the power of shared leadership and learning. My goal is always to work with, not just for, communities.”
Every spring semester, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers a course called Statistical Consulting, a capstone seminar that brings real-world problem-solving to the student experience.
The CCE supports 15+ student organizations that contribute to the public good. Read student leader reflections on how community engagement work has impacted their lives and the lives of others.
