Students, Fall 2021

Dear Students,

We are writing with information about the housing selection processes for the fall 2021 term for returning students. At present we expect to return to as close to normal operations as possible, based on the public health situation. We will keep you apprised should we need to make any adjustments.

Students Already Housed

Students who have already been assigned a space for fall should still complete the open application in their housing portal, but will not be eligible to participate in housing selection. Examples include students committed/attending off-campus study programs, residential life staff, students who are on a specialty housing roster (e.g. Academic/Special Interest communities, Social Houses, or Superblocks), etc.

Information on Remote Learning

If you have been approved to study remotely for the Fall, please do not participate in the housing selection process. 

Matriculation Date

All housing selection processes run based on a student’s matriculation term (your first term at Middlebury). What this means is that even if a student has taken time off previously, they are still able to select housing with their class year. Class year status for housing purposes is determined by your matriculation date. 

  • Senior Status = Matriculated on or before the 2019 spring term
  • Junior Status = Matriculated on or before the 2020 spring term
  • Sophomore Status = Matriculated on or before the 2021 spring term

Housing Selection

Housing selection information is now posted on our website. We have a new housing software and so the housing selection process will look different. We encourage you to thoroughly review the website and updated housing selection calendar.

All housing applications need to be completed by the due date listed below. After those dates, you will not be able to change your application or group membership. 

Here’s a quick look at the process:

  1. Log into your housing portal, and complete your application(s) under the “Applications” tab.
  2. Applications for the various room selection processes are now open, and all have different due dates. Be sure to identify the dates relevant to you in the “Important Dates” list below.
  3. Form roommate groups with people that you want to live with or be your own group of one. Creating roommate groups gives you the option of selecting from a variety of small houses, suites, doubles and singles up to eight beds or selecting individual spaces near your friends.
  4. Brainstorm a list of at least 10-15 different housing options and preferences in case your first choices are not available.
  5. Students will receive a randomly generated time slot and will be able to log into the housing portal and select a room at that time.

Roommate Groups

You need to complete a housing application to create a roommate group. 

  • Townhouse Lottery will be able to begin matching roommate groups immediately up until July 11th at 11:59 p.m.
  • Juniors/Senior Room Selection will be able to begin matching roommate groups starting on July 10th through July 18th at 11:59 p.m.
  • Sophomore Room Selection will be able to begin matching roommate groups immediately up until July 25th at 11:59 p.m.

Selection Process

You will receive a more detailed email about your specific room selection process (Townhouse Lottery, Seniors, Mixed Seniors/Junior groups, Juniors, Sophomores) as it gets closer.
