“Colonnaded Streets and Urban Theater in the Later Roman Empire”

Grand, colonnaded avenues proliferated as never before in leading cities of the later Roman Empire. These new urban thoroughfares were costly and complex investments that transformed the appearance and the experience of the cityscapes they adorned. Usually willed into existence by the ruling regime, they lent themselves to new forms of political theater intended to project and promote the more autocratic style of rule adopted by emperors from the third century CE.

    The Response Project: Tremor

Tremor is a concert of new piano works commissioned by Brianna Matzke in response to her essential tremor diagnosis. Composers Molly Joyce, Hanna Benn, Adeliia Faizullina, Matthew Evan Taylor, and Forrest Pierce used Matzke’s neurological condition as inspiration to explore perceptions of ability/disability, personal expression in the face of misunderstanding, and belonging in a world ill-equipped to welcome.

    Movement Matters with Miillie Heckler

In this improvisational dance class students will explore: What is rage? What are its various tones, textures and subtleties? Is there something that lies beneath this fierce and frenetic energy? Is there something your rage is trying to tell you or protect you from? Through dance, we engage in self-defense and group empowerment exercises that give our rage a voice and body through which to speak. Instead of resisting rage, we move with it to focus its energy and remember its creative potential.

    Subtle Rage

“Subtle Rage” is a multidisciplinary performance piece that merges dance, voice and original music to tell stories of rage, sensuality and forgiveness. This work asks: In what ways—subtle and obvious—does rage take shape in your body and life? How can we move with rage in a way that transforms its destructive impact into weapons of mass creation?
