When it comes to the media & entertainment field, there is a broad variety of ways to pursue your interests and find outlets for your abilities; very much aligned with a liberal arts education. What are the different elements of the business, what are the trends shaping the industry, and what do they mean for future roles in the business? Hear from a panel of Middlebury alumni with a variety of backgrounds who now have careers across a wide spectrum within the industry.

How do series and specials get made? What kinds of jobs exist in that world, what skills are necessary to get them, and who are the big employers? Gretchen Eisele, ’90 will describe the landscape of television production, the difference between scripted and unscripted, live and taped programming. She will explain the process of how shows get developed and commissioned, and break down what the different jobs that exist. Finally, she will teach students about the process of making television - from creating a vision, to shooting in the field, writing and editing a project.

Jackie Hurwitz ’07, Associate Producer will take you through the pitch process to see what it entails and will also speak about the emerging arena of Virtual Reality in film.

Tom Scheinfeldt, Associate Professor of Digital Media and Design, Associate Professor of History, and Director of Digital Humanities in the Digital Media Center at University of Connecticut, will be visiting Monday, December 12th, 12:15-1:30 for a lunch time lecture.

A bilingual poetry reading/presentation (in Spanish and English) by young Uruguayan poet and academic Laura Cesarco Eglin, an up-and-coming Latin American writer living in the United States (http://laucesarco.blogspot.com/).
