For Faculty, For Staff, For Students

Earlier this month, Google began enabling Gemini features directly inside Google Workspace for Education apps (e.g. Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides), which some community members may have noticed appearing in those apps as they were doing their work.

As of Monday, February 16, 2026, Information Technology Services has temporarily turned off Gemini within Google Workspace apps while we facilitate broader campus conversation about the path forward. This approach aligns with our guidance that, where we have control over AI functionality in enterprise systems, ITS will evaluate these capabilities before enabling them for broad use. See our AI for Work page for more information.

This change does not impact the standalone Gemini application, and it does not affect Google NotebookLM. Both remain available.

For any questions about this change, please contact the ITS Helpdesk.
