Starting Thursday, December 10, default email addresses for members of the Monterey faculty and staff will change from @miis.edu to username@middlebury.edu.  For some, this will be a change from the previous username@miis.edu default.

Please note that @miis.edu addresses will be retained as aliases so that all emails sent to @miis.edu addresses will continue to be delivered without disruption.

This change will cause little or no disruption to email services for most. Since the launch of the new Middlebury Institute website in early 2018, all staff, faculty, and students at the Institute have been issued @middlebury.edu email addresses that correspond with their @miis.edu addresses. With this change we are continuing the process to further unify our Middlebury institutional identity. Other important goals are to reduce confusion when accessing other Middlebury services, such as email, VPN, Canvas, and Google Services, and to facilitate approvals of Oracle workflows via email for all users.

What actions do MIIS users need to take?

  • Any specific email rules based on messages sent to the @miis.edu domain will need to be revised for the rules to work properly.  This Microsoft support document explains how to make changes to email rules.
  • Anyone who used an @miis.edu address to register with external service providers or websites (such as Apple IDs or Netflix accounts) may want to update accounts to reflect this email address change, as well as replace old usernames with your @middlebury.edu address or a personal email address if appropriate.
  • There are fourteen departmental or shared mailboxes with a name that is already in use @middlebury.edu. ITS will work with each department to resolve these in 2021.

The ITS Helpdesk is available to answer questions and provide support.
