New students are admitted on a rolling basis from mid-December through mid-May, as long as space is available.
Apply to any of Bread Loaf’s campuses, and attend different campuses in different summers. Please review the application instructions before applying so that you know what to expect.
Admissions for Bread Loaf’s summer 2022 session are now closed.
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college to be eligible for admission to the continuing education or master’s programs. MLitt candidates must hold an MA in English. Exceptional undergraduates are eligible for admission after the completion of three years toward a BA. Bread Loaf course credits may be transferred to students’ home institutions or counted toward a Bread Loaf degree.
Bread Loaf is committed to increasing diversity in its community, and we encourage candidates from historically underrepresented groups to apply. Members of Bread Loaf’s Students of Color group are available as mentors for students of color before and during the session.
Some campuses fill sooner than others, so an early application will increase your chances for enrollment at your first-choice campus. Students admitted before mid-February are able to participate in our online course registration process and enjoy the best course availability. Additionally, financial aid funds can run out; if you are interested in receiving aid, apply early for both the Bread Loaf program and aid.
Financial Aid will be awarded to students in two main blocks, depending on the completion of your Bread Loaf enrollment.
- To receive an aid decision by February 18, 2022: new students will need to complete their Bread Loaf applications by January 25, 2022; returning students will need to submit their re-enrollment forms by February 7, 2022.
- To receive an aid decision by April 22, 2022: new students will need to complete their Bread Loaf applications by March 15, 2022; returning students will need to submit their re-enrollment forms by March 28, 2022.
- Anyone who is enrolled after March 31, 2022 will receive a decision on a rolling basis.
You will receive notification of decisions within two working weeks of submitting a complete application. Applicants who are accepted but are unable to attend Bread Loaf in the summer for which they applied may defer admission for up to two years.
Course registration for returning and newly admitted students begins in mid-February. Students admitted after the regular registration period will register for courses as soon as they are accepted. Admitted students will receive course registration information with their admission letters or in separate emails.
