California Residential Policies
BLSE aims to foster an inclusive learning environment that is safe, conducive to graduate study, appreciative of differences, and mindful of place. To that end, we ask all students (including those living off-campus) to abide by the following policies as well as those articulated in MIIS Residential Policies. See the BLSE Student Handbook for more information.
Safety
- Smoking is NOT ALLOWED in any campus buildings, including the dorm. If you smoke outdoors, be sure that you’re away from any open window and that you dispose of all smoking detritus in proper receptacles.
- Candles, incense, or halogen lamps are not allowed in the dorm. Be aware, too, that the heat from a running laptop can ignite flammable bedding.
Quiet Hours
- To promote a residential environment conducive to study, we ask that you observe quiet hours from 11 pm to 7 am every day, even on weekends.
- At all times, please use headphones in the dorm when using a sound-producing device.
Campus Visitors
- Children residing with off-campus students are welcome on campus as long as they are supervised by an adult and respectful (sound-wise) of places where academic study or events are in progress.
- You may bring guests to campus, but they are not allowed to stay overnight in the dorm.
- Pets are not allowed inside ay campus buildings and must be on a leash – and with a caretaker – whenever they are on campus.
Student Events
- Please see on-site director Amy Rodgers if you’d like to organize an event for the Summer Institute community. Be sure to check the Summer Institute calendar in advance, to make sure your event does not conflict with classes, all-school workshops, faculty salons or other events.
