Almost all of the Education Studies courses have a school placement component. Our field placements are carefully thought out and balance the needs of the schools, the regulations of the state of Vermont, the individual trajectory of the students, and the parameters of the curriculum of Middlebury College. Our students are given multi-grade placements over the course of their work in completing the Education Studies Minor and Student Teaching. Pre-practicum placements are purposeful, and strongly integrated with the content of the courses to which they’re attached. Before entering the Student Teaching semester, our students have had exposure to different grades, different subject and foci, lesson and unit planning in the context of the classrooms, and exposure to various pedagogical styles and the vast range of student abilities. They also have logged far more than the required minimum sixty hours in the classroom.
