Who can be Principal Investigator/Project Director on a grant at Middlebury?

  • Tenure track faculty members
  • Visiting faculty whose term of appointment extends beyond the notification date for the grant (if consistent with sponsor guidelines and approved by the department chair and appropriate academic dean)
  • Assistants in Science Instructions  whose term of appointment extends beyond the notification date for the grant (if consistent with sponsor guidelines and approved by the department chair and appropriate academic dean)
  • Research Scholars according to the terms of their appointment letters; for the purposes of grants, Research Scholars will report to an academic dean
  • Professors emeritus (if consistent with sponsor guidelines and approved by the appropriate academic dean, who will replace the department chair for purposes of supervision related to grants)
  • Staff with approval of supervisor and appropriate Vice President
  • MIIS Faculty and Staff who have approval of supervisor and appropriate Dean or Provost
  • Other Middlebury employees with approval of supervisor and appropriate Vice President
