College Breaks

Students may register to remain on campus during most academic school year recesses (use the link to the academic calendars posted on the left side of the page): Midterm, Thanksgiving, February and Spring. Students may request special permission to remain on campus for the Winter Break Recess. During these recesses dining halls may have limited hours or be closed all together.  Please review the Dining Services Calendar and Parton Health and Counseling Center’s website for details. Other College offices and facilities may also have limited hours of operation or be closed.

For safety and security purposes the College requires students who intend to remain on campus at any time during a Midterm recess, Thanksgiving Recess and Spring Recess to register. In order to stay on campus during December Recess you need to be approved by Residential Life through an online registration process. Details will be shared via email in advance of the process.

Requests for February Recess Housing is now open.

The deadline to submit requests is at
11:59 PM on Tuesday, January 28, 2020.

Students may stay in their assigned residence halls during February Recess, but registration is required.

  • Housing is available for students who can demonstrate a need to remain on campus over this break period for significant personal reasons and are approved through the Office of Residential Life and your Commons Dean.
  • Students must request housing through the December Recess Housing Request form. Requests will be reviewed by Residential Life and your Commons Dean. Students will be emailed with a decision in the beginning of December. Please note that planning your travel dates incorrectly will not be considered a valid reason to stay.
  • For all students who are approved, a December Recess informational session will take place on Monday, December 9 in 4:15-5pm in Axinn Center 229.
  • Members of athletic teams that have practice and competitions over December Recess will be informed by their coach as to when they may be on campus and do not need to complete the online request form.
  • Students are required to depart from campus 24-hours after their last exam. If your final exam falls on Sunday, December 15, you must depart campus no later than 12:00 noon on December 16, 2019. Violation of this policy may result in significant fines and other sanctions.
  • Students may generally return to campus for the start of the Winter Term the Saturday prior to the start of classes.  For 2020, the general student body may return on Saturday, January 4 starting at 9:00 AM. Classes begin at 8:00 AM on Monday, January 6, 2020.
