College Breaks

Students may register to remain on campus during most academic school year recesses (use the link to the academic calendars posted on the left side of the page): Midterm, Thanksgiving, February and Spring. Students may request special permission to remain on campus for the Winter Break Recess.  During these recesses dining halls may have limited hours or be closed all together.  Please review the Dining Services Calendar and Parton Health and Counseling Center’s website for details. Other College offices and facilities may also have limited hours of operation or be closed.

For safety and security purposes the College requires students who intend to remain on campus at any time during a Midterm recess, Thanksgiving Recess and Spring Recess to register on Self-Service BANNER. In order to stay on campus during December Recess you need to apply to your commons deans office through the on-line registration process; details ares sent via an email in advance of the process.

December Recess – End of Fall Term

The College closes completely at the end of the fall term. During the December Recess college offices, dining rooms and facilities are closed and services are severely restricted.

Students are required to depart from campus 24-hours after their last exam. If your final exam falls on Sunday, December 16, you must depart campus no later than 12:00 noon on December 17, 2018.

Students may generally return to campus for the start of the Winter Term the Saturday prior to the start of classes.  For 2019, the general student body may return on Saturday, January 5 after 9:00 AM. Classes Begin 8:00 AM on Monday, January 7, 2019.

Violation of this policy may result in significant fines and other sanctions.

December Recess Housing

Housing is available for students who can demonstrate a need to remain on campus over the break period for significant personal reasons.  Students who would like to be considered to stay must request permission in a timely manner for any part of the recess by completing the online application before the appropriate deadline.  Failure to meet the deadline may result in a request being denied.

Applicants will be asked to supply the details of their circumstances, including the specific dates requested to be on campus. Applications will be reviewed by Residential Life and your Commons Dean. A student's dean may want to schedule a meeting.  Planning your travel dates incorrectly will not be considered a valid reason to stay. Please remember that there are no services provided during the December Recess and students who are approved to stay on campus must provide their own meals.

Members of athletic teams that have practice and competitions over December Recess will be informed by their coach as to when they may be on campus and do not need to complete the online application.

Access privileges for all students, other then those who have previously received permission from Residential Life, a Commons Dean or a Coach, will be inactivated.

Details about the application process are also shared in an all student email in advance of the recess.

The Winter Break Application will be available from Friday, November 2 to 3:00 PM on Tuesday, November 13.
