Study Abroad in Spain

Designed for students at an advanced level of Spanish, the program structure of the School in Spain gives students the opportunity to perfect their Spanish competency through guided language immersion and facilitated social and cultural integration.

With program options in Madrid, Getafe, Logroño, and Córdoba – four very different and distinct study abroad sites -- the School in Spain offers a wide range of options for true immersion in Spanish language and culture. At all sites, students adhere to the Middlebury Language Pledge®, a commitment to language development and cultural integration.

In Madrid, the Spanish capital, students enroll in classes at the Sede Prim, the headquarters of the School in Spain. Madrid students can choose to take all of their clases at the Sede or enroll in up to two courses at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.  In Getafe, located just outside of Madrid, students enroll directly in the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, yet live in the capital. Logroño, in the northern region of La Rioja, and Córdoba in Andalucía, provide students the opportunity to experience other regions of Spain, while taking classes directly in the local university alongside their Spanish peers.

Middlebury College strives to increase intercultural competency development and, for this purpose, all students are administered the Intercultural Development Inventory® (IDI®).  Students are offered opportunities to work towards intercultural competence by means of confidential feedback sessions on the results of the assessment as well as workshops to acquire a greater perspective on what it means to function effectively across cultures.
