    Join us for a talk by Sabina Haque, PhD Candidate at Harvard University, and Middlebury Class of 2018. Sabina’s talk is titled “A graph-theoretic approach to Markov processes with applications in biochemical reaction networks.” Talk description: The linear framework models biochemical reaction networks under timescale separation using finite directed graphs with labeled edges. Recently, the linear framework has provided a deterministic approach to understanding the thermodynamic properties of biological information processing systems.

  • Holistic Futures Circles

    Last year’s “Dreaming Into Being” Circles with Carolyn Finney and Sophia Calvi invited Midd community members to question: what is the world we want to live in? How can we cultivate a stronger sense of connection to self, each other, and the planet? This year, Carolyn, Sophia, and Tara Federoff are reviving these circles to continue our conversation and exploration into what holistic sustainability really means in the world that we live in today and what better, more just, and holistic futures look like.

    Ballet returns to the Dance Department this fall. Classical Ballet technique in traditional ballet class structure.

    Each session is open to a maximum of 20 participants.
    PE credit is available for attendance at 8 classes. Previous dance experience in any form is recommended.

    Join The Scott Center’s Affiliate Humanist Chaplain, Prof. Bill Vitek, for a conversation about the value of embracing idleness. We’ll be discussing a short (3-page) article by Arthur Brooks, “How to Embrace Doing Nothing,” that appeared in The Atlantic.  Cider and goodies will be served. All are welcome.
