    NER Poetry Reading Group

    The New England Review (NER) is hosting a poetry reading group for faculty and staff this fall. Join them to discuss US Poet Laureate Ada Limón’s book The Hurting Kind. Those who sign up will receive a copy of the book. The group will meet on three Thursdays from 12:30-1:30 pm in the CTLR Suite (LIB 225) on Sept. 29, Oct. 27, and Nov. 10. Attend one session or all three. You are welcome to bring your lunch. The CTLR will provide coffee/tea. To sign up or for questions email Leslie Sainz. Books will be available for pickup in the CTLR.

    Interested in studying English, creative writing, pedagogy, or theater arts at Bread Loaf during the summer? Middlebury undergraduates can attend the Bread Loaf School of English as rising seniors and earn six semester-hours of graduate-level English credit over six intensive and immersive weeks at our campuses in Ripton, Oxford, and MIIS. You can apply your credits to your undergraduate degree or get a jump start on your MA in English.

    This interactive workshop with teaching artists from Beyond the Page and Tara Affolter, Faculty Director of Equity, Justice, and Inclusion explores antiracist pedagogy in action.  This professional development event will consider how the framing and activities we engage in with BTP are rooted in inclusive antiracist practice and explore how such practices emerge in our teaching.

    Jennifer Alpert (Lecturer, Committee on Degrees in History & Literature at Harvard University)  is a film scholar interested in portrayals of marginalized groups in the popular cinemas of the Americas as it pertains to race, gender identity, sexuality, class, and political ideology among others, and with a focus on human rights in Latin America.

    An engaging and fun way to experience and learn about Israeli art and culture.
    Each week will provide something new and different according to students’ requests - including making art and learning calligraphy; Mystical topics of spells, amulets, and witchcraft in ancient Judaism and contemporary Israel; watching Israeli films and shows; graffiti in Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem; listening to Israeli music; meeting interesting people from various sectors of Israel; and cooking and eating lots of Israeli foods.

    Due to unforeseen circumstances, this iteration of the Middlebury Science Café has been canceled. It will be rescheduled for the spring semester. 

    Join us Thursday night to chat about what it takes to start and grow an organic farm in Vermont. Henry and Gabby from Old Farm Road will be discussing the science of soil and sustainable farming practices. Doors open at 5:00 so swing by early to grab a good seat and an amazing coffee from Matt at Lost Monarch.

    Come join Amnesty International at our annual Write for Rights event! We will have tables set up outside Atwater dining hall. Students will come look at case studies of people from all over the world whose human rights have been infringed upon and write letters/sign letters that we will send out to legislation of the countries from which the people belong to advocate for their rights.
