Tom Perera, one of the world’s leading experts on cipher machines, will present a talk on “The Real Story of ‘The Imitation Game’ and the Enigma of Alan Turing”. Dr. Perera is an emeritus professor of psychology at Columbia, Barnard and Montclair. The author of the book “Inside ENIGMA:The Secrets of the Enigma and other Historic Cipher Machines,” Dr. Perera is the founder of the Enigma Museum. He has been collecting, restoring, and preserving antique scientific cipher and telegraph instruments for more than six decades.

Jared Coffin Lecture, author of A Chant to Soothe Wild Elephants

“Join us as Middlebury graduate Jaed Coffin discusses his book, A Chant to Soothe Wild Elephants. The book chronicles Jaed’s time as a Buddhist monk in his mother’s village in Thailand, in an effort to address the notion of displacement, ethnic identity and cultural belonging. Jaed has received numerous fellowships and awards including a William Sloane Fellowship from the Bread Loaf Conference, a Resident Fellowship from the Island Institute, and a Wilson Fellowship from Deerfield Academy where he is currently writer in residence.
