MIIS Graduate Student Wage Scale

Level A - General $16.95
Level B - Skilled $17.45
Level C - Specialist $17.95

Wage Scale Criteria 

The wage scale is set by the following criteria (see Level Definitions for further details):

  • Level of skills required, including special skills
  • Level of experience/training required
  • Level of independent work, confidentiality and peer supervision
  • Level of mental activity
  • Level of accountability

Any position that clearly requires a higher pay rate outside of the set levels because of experience and levels of technical expertise required will be managed through Human Resources on a case-by-case basis.

Level Definitions 

Level A (General)

Includes all entry-level student jobs that do not require previous training or special skills other than basic computer skills. Requires minimum and finite on-the-job training. Does not require supervision of others. Requires some independence, but also some supervision. 

Examples: Office Assistants, Monitors, Note Takers, Mail Clerks, Library Circulation Desk Assistants, Retail Clerks,  Receptionists, Athletics Game Staff, and Athletics Videographers

Level B (Skilled)

Includes positions that require a higher level of responsibility and independence. Requires some previous training or experience. Positions offer extensive on-the-job training or require certification. Students may be responsible for an aspect of a program, and/or supervising other students. 

Examples: Research Assistants, Social Media Coordinators, Athletics Head Monitors, Museum Interns, Teaching Assistants, Civic Leadership Fellows, Box Office Supervisors, Ski and Snowboard Instructors, Tutors, Van Drivers, and Graders

Level C (Specialist)

Includes positions that may require special supervisory skills or an advanced level of academic achievement or other qualifications. Position might be responsible for the success of an entire program. Requires extensive previous experience, highly specialized skills or ongoing training. Job duties may include hiring, training, scheduling and supervising other students. 

Examples: Lead Computer Consultants, CTLR Lead Tutors, Media Specialists, Peer Career Advisors, Senior Admissions Fellows, Crossroads Cafe Managers, and Certified Crowd Managers

One-time Payment Wages

Hourly rate cannot be less than the Level A rate.

  • Van Drivers: Level B on the Student Wage Scale
  • Crowd Managers: Level C on the Student Wage Scale
  • Photographer: Determined by the supervisor using the Level Definitions and Student Wage Scale
  • Videographer: Determined by the supervisor using the Level Definitions and Student Wage Scale
  • DJ/Musicians/Page-turners for Performing Artists: $25 per hour (per musician)
  • Putting up Posters: Level A on the Student Wage Scale
  • Art Models: $25 per hour
